Blow Dryers

I am going to answer a few common questions I get asked about blow dryers. Blow dryers are the most common tool for a woman to have, it’s important for us to understand what we are using and why.

What is the difference between a Drugstore Blow dryer and a Professional one?
Professional blow dryers are usually lighter in weight (although not all of them are). There are also several features a blow dryer can have and professional blow dryers posses them all. The blow dryers you get at walmart usually have a metal nozzle, and the different parts are made of cheap metals as well. A professional blow dryer is made with ceramic parts and is usually ionic. Our blow dryers also tend to have longer cords and a higher wattage.

How many watts does a blow dryer have to have to straighten my hair?

I’d say anything over 1600 watts is good. Most professional blow dryers have between 1600-2200 watts. but it is not just about the wattage of your blow dryer. What products you use and more importantly the way you blow dry your hair is the key. Round brushing your own hair is a pain at first and takes A LOT of practice, but once you get it down you can blow dry and straighten  your hair every day with ease!

Here is a pretty good tutorial on how to blow dry your hair straight form Youtube!

What product work best with a blow dryer?
There are some products that are made to work with a blow dryer to smooth your hair and protect it from heat. It’s super important that you use a heat protectant when blow drying your hair. Here is a list of my favorite products that work best with a blow dryer, if you click on the product it will talk you a review of it so you can learn more.
Beauty Protector Protect & Oil – Adds shine, conditions, and has major heat protection power. Better for people with damaged hair that needs conditioning.
After Party – leave in conditioner with light heat protection for blow drying. Great for people with dry hair.

Uniq One All in One Treatment – This treatment is amazing! It protects color, it’s a heat protectant, it detangles and more! It is great for people with color treated hair, or semi-damaged hair.

Healthy Sexy Hair Soya Want It All 22-in-1 treatment – This is my go to. It’s a heat protectant with argon oil and several other healing benefits. It’s great for people with fine to normal hair, but not very good for those with super thick or ethnic hair.

What are all of the different attachments for a blow dryer?

Well there are 8 different attachments you can buy, but the two most common are the diffuser and focusing nozzle.

The attachment on the left is a focusing nozzle and is used to focus air into a small stream. Beauticians use it to blow dry hair straight, or to round brush hair.  The attachment on the right is a diffuser and is used to diffuse the air and its pressure into a softer stream. It is commonly use for curly hair.

What is you favorite Blow Dryer?

When it comes to cosmetology tools you can not beat Babyliss Pro. They have a large selection of blow dryers, straighteners and curling irons. My favorite blow dryer by them (which I of corse own) is the BaByliss Pro BAB2000 Ceramix Xtreme Dryer. It is light weight, has along cord, three heat settings, two speed settings and a cool shot button. It also comes with a focusing nozzle attachment. Here is a link to buy one on Amazon!
